CCAB
The Carfree Cities Alliance Bangladesh (CCAB) is a sister organization of the international Carfree Cities Alliance (CCA). CCAB trains youth in the many advantages that carfree cities could bring to Bangladesh and beyond.
Cars and other motorized vehicles in our cities cause a multitude of major problems. Motorized vehicles worsen pollution and the climate crisis. They injure and maim large numbers of people through car crashes. They waste our time, spent in traffic congestion or working to pay for our car or motorbike. They waste space for moving and storing vehicles that otherwise could be used to have more parks, canals, trees, and affordable housing in our cities. They contribute to social isolation and make it impossible or extremely unpleasant to walk or cycle safely in the city.
Cities are much better places to live when needed destinations are closer to residences, as in the fifteen-minute city; where people mostly travel by walking, cycling, or public transit; and where abundant public space exists and movement and storage of motorized vehicles is limited.
CCAB educates others about the harm caused by motorized traffic (cars, motorbikes, trucks, etc.) and the wonderful possibilities that would emerge if motorized traffic were controlled rather than encouraged. CCAB organizes mobile playgrounds and carfree street events in order to demonstrate to community members how much better our streets and cities would be with vastly less motorized traffic and more open public spaces for people of all ages to socialize and play outdoors.
CCAB also organizes online talk shows and utilizes social as well as conventional media to raise attention to the problems caused by cars and other motorized vehicles in the city and to promote its vision of better cities for people and nature.
