Revolt Against Plastic
One-time use of plastics for food and beverages harms our health and kills birds, fish, and other life that mistake it for food. Our take-away, throw-away culture may be convenient for us but it is disastrous to our planet and needs to change. Most single-use plastics are utterly unnecessary. Plastic bags can easily be replaced by cloth or jute bags; it is not difficult to get into the habit of taking a bag with you when you do your shopping. Single use plastic bottles can be replaced by metal bottles, which have the added advantage of not leaking dangerous chemicals into your water. Where simple alternatives do not exist we can simply avoid the use of plastic straws and of food and beverages that come in disposable containers.
Plastics take hundreds of years to decompose, and may never decompose completely. It is unacceptable and ridiculously selfish to use products that will continue to pollute the planet for generations after our death. By being more aware of these simple facts, we can make dramatic changes to our lifestyle. After all, true sustainability means passing on the planet in a better condition than we received it.
IWB seeks to convince youth of the harmful and unnecessary nature of most single-use plastics and to teach them to revolt against (single use) plastics.
